Location. The Ink House Bed and Breakfast is located in St. Helena, Calif., in the Napa Valley wine region. The Whitehall Lane Winery is one tenth mile from the property. Over 12 wineries are within seven miles of the inn, including Domaine Chandon less than seven miles away. Downtown St. Helena is less than three miles away. The Robert Louis Stevenson Silverado Museum is three miles from the inn.
Features. This 1884 Italianate style home, set on four acres of vineyards, olive orchards, lawns and Victorian gardens, was the center of Theron Ink's Helios Ranch. The home offers two first floor parlors, antiques, a grand piano, fireplace, circa 1870 pump organ, crystal chandeliers and original stained glass windows. Original artwork is displayed throughout the house. Complimentary gourmet breakfasts are served each morning. Wine and appetizers are complimentary late afternoons. On select afternoons, the inn hosts wine tasting sessions with local winemakers. A game room features a dartboard, and pool and poker tables. The Ink House Bed and Breakfast offers a full wraparound veranda, bicycles, video library, picnic table and garden swing. A glass enclosed observatory set atop the house high above the treetops features Scottish stained glass windows. This 12 foot by 20 foot observatory offers 360 degree panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards and hillsides. Guests are invited to read, sip wine, watch the sunset or view the hot air balloons float by in the early morning in the observatory. Pets are not allowed at the property.
Guestrooms. Guestrooms at the Ink House Bed and Breakfast are located on the second floor, with views of the vineyards and gardens. All rooms offer private full bathrooms, and are decorated in period French, English, American, Georgian, Eastlake and Italian antiques. Select rooms offer mini fridges and flat screen televisions. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available in all accommodations.
Expert Tip. The Ink House Bed and Breakfast was the principal location for the filming of the Elvis Presley film, "Wild in the Country." Many exterior shots were filmed in Napa County and the village of Calistoga. Elvis stayed in a room at the inn during the filming to avoid the crowds that had gathered at the Napa motel where the crew stayed.
